Process presentation
Led by Center ponovne uporabe (CPU) in partnership with Ljudska univerza Ptuj, the project combines social empowerment with practical training in the cultivation and processing of medical-grade silk. Participants gain both – technical skills through hands-on work in sustainable silk production and vital social and functional competences, such as communication, digital literacy, and teamwork. With strong mentorship, psychological support, and employer engagement, Svilena sinergija aims to significantly improve participants’ employment opportunities and personal growth while fostering a model of inclusive, sustainable innovation in the biotechnology and medical sectors.
Involved partners
The main target group are individuals with low educational attainment, limited job prospects, and various psychosocial challenges. The project also fosters local partnerships between educational institutions, NGOs, and businesses, encouraging cross-sector collaboration and long-term impact.
Impact
The project includes a total of 150 long-term unemployed individuals who are developing personal and professional competences, with a focus on employment in the fields of biotechnology and sustainable agriculture. The project also introduces eco-friendly silk cultivation that supports environmental responsibility, circular economy principles, and sets the base for future business opportunities also in other regions. Joint events and workshops foster collaboration between local institutions, NGOs, and employers, reinforcing long-term social cohesion and inclusion.
Next steps
The programme model is scalable and replicable, positioning silk production as not only a niche craft, but a viable avenue for inclusive, sustainable employment and community-based innovation.
